On Saturday people with disabilities can practice the airport and flight experience at Yeager Airport. Airport Director and CEO of Yeager Airport Dominique Ranieri said this is the second “Wings for All” event in a Friday statement.
“At CRW, our mission is to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all travelers,” Ranieri said. The Wings for All program offer families a chance to familiarize themselves with the airport process in a supportive setting, helping to build the confidence needed to navigate air travel with ease.”
Yeager Airport will participate in the national Wings for All program that offers individuals with disabilities, and their families a low stakes trial run of the flight experience.
Paige Withrow, Chief Marketing Officer with Yeager Airport, says the program aims to help individuals with disabilities like autism.
“This is based around those with autism, so we are lucky to partner with C.A.R.E.S. community autism resources and education systems,” Withrow said. “They’ll also be with us there tomorrow and to help families if they have any questions, and help them navigate the process as well
Families and Individuals will practice going through security and boarding the plane. Even though the plane will stay grounded, Withrow says the flight experience will be emulated by vibrations and sounds.
After the simulated flight Withrow said there will be a reception at baggage claim. Registration for the event is closed, Withrow said this is due to overwhelming demand.
“We filled up our registration in three hours, which just tells you that we definitely have a need for something like this in our community,” Withrow said.
