On this week’s premiere broadcast of Mountain Stage, guest host and CBS Sunday Morning correspondent Conor Knighton welcomes The Baseball Project, The Minus 5, Bob Mould, Chris Stamey, and Loose Cattle.
For the first time since 1991, Peter Buck and Mike Mills of R.E.M. returned to Mountain Stage as part of the supergroup The Baseball Project, a baseball-themed outfit that writes and performs songs about baseball legends, events, and culture. Formed in 2007, this group of rock legends is composed of Buck and Mills (R.E.M.), along with Scott McCaughey (Young Fresh Fellows), Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate), and Linda Pitmon (Steve Wynn and the Miracle 3, Zuzu’s Petals).
Our Song of the Week is their live performance of “To the Veterans Committee,” a musical endorsement to induct Dale Murphy into the Baseball Hall of Fame. “Two MVPs and five Gold Gloves/ Atlanta fans’ undying love”
