On this week’s premiere broadcast of Mountain Stage, guest host David Mayfield welcomes Chris Smither, Joan Shelley, Yarn, Calvin Arsenia, and HuDost.
Our Song of the Week is “Here In The High And Low” by Joan Shelley. The Louisville-bred, Michigan-based folk singer-songwriter released this single as the title track on her 2025 album Real Warmth. In the original recording, you can hear Shelley’s 3-year-old daughter Tayla on backing vocals.
On this episode, you’ll also hear live performances by acclaimed folk/blues singer-songwriter and guitarist Chris Smither, Americana group from North Carolina Yarn, Kansas City-based internationally known musician and performance artist Calvin Arsenia, and rock ensemble HuDost.
