Justice William “Bill” Wooton has been released from a hospital following a medical incident Wednesday morning in the midst of oral arguments at the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia.
First responders transported Wooton to CAMC Memorial where he was evaluated and then treated for dehydration and released Wednesday evening.
“We’re pleased to report he is feeling well and returned to work at the Capitol this morning,” said Jared Hunt, the Court’s communications director, in a press release.
Wooton also released a statement thanking the community for their prayers and best wishes.
“I was feeling a bit under the weather yesterday and had apparently become quite dehydrated, which triggered my sudden illness during Wednesday’s oral arguments,” the statement read. “I’m grateful for the swift action of my colleagues, court security and first responders who quickly came to my aid.”
Wednesday was the first day of the court’s September argument calendar. Hearings that were scheduled for Wednesday were cancelled and will be rescheduled and posted to the docket online.
