Lewisburg to Hold Airstream Rally

A whole bunch of silvery RVs are coming to Lewisburg this month.

The State Fair of West Virginia Event Center says it will host more than 700 campers for a week starting June 28 when the Wally Byam Caravan Club International holds its 59th annual convention and rally. The group consists of Airstream trailer owners.

Rally officials will hold a public viewing of new and vintage Airstreams on June 25.

Byam built the first Airstream trailer as a tent contraption on a Model T chassis, eventually replacing the tent with a teardrop-shaped permanent shelter. The riveted aluminum, aviation-inspired design emerged in the 1930s. Byam would spend much of the rest of his life leading Airstream caravans around the world. He died in 1962.
