On this episode of The Legislature Today, the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals heard oral arguments Tuesday in the case to replace former state Senator Daniel Hall.
Elected as a Democrat in 2012, Hall switched parities in 2014 to give the GOP a majority in the chamber, but the switch has state political leaders questioning whether a Republican or Democrat should replace him.
Despite their lack of a member, Senators are continuing to move forward with a bill to make West Virginia a Right-to-Work state. The controversial proposal will be up for a vote in the upper chamber Thursday.
Gov. Tomblin has once again proposed budget cuts for the state’s public college and universities, this time asking them to cut as much as $14 million. House education leaders are looking for ways to avoid the cuts, but say in a tight budget year, finding the dollars will be tough.
