[CHARLESTON, WV] – West Virginia Public Broadcasting’s (WVPB) news team has won three awards from the 2026 Public Media Journalists Association (PMJA) Awards Competition.

The awards are for work completed during 2025. In all, the organization is presenting 293 awards across 36 categories, recognizing the outstanding public media journalism from 134 organizations nationwide. Awards are presented in six divisions representing public media organizations with as few as one to more than 30 newsroom employees.

“I think these honors reflect the quality of work produced by the news team at West Virginia Public Broadcasting,” said WVPB Director of Broadcast Journalism, Eric Douglas. “The fact that a human-interest story, a news broadcast and a photo essay and interview about flooding were all recognized with national honors says a lot about what we do.”

2026 PMJA Awards:

Human Interest Feature: Division B

Second Place: “The Homewrecker Returns To Hillbilly Hotdogs,” Bill Lynch

Newscast: Division B

Second Place: “A Conversation About Hidden Costs On Utility Bills, This West Virginia Morning,” WVPB Staff

Visual Journalism: Division B

Second Place: “Photo Essay: Floods ‘People Living In The Aftermath’,” Roger May
