The largest free and charitable clinic in the state will host its annual We Care WV Day on Saturday.
West Virginia Health Right expects at least 500 people to show up for the free clinic.
“We are the safety gap provider and without us people go without. Then you end up with people that are sicker, people that are diabetic going without insulin, people that go without blood pressure pills,” CEO Angie Settle said. “We want to help people. It’s better that they come to us where we have a network in place to do things most cost effectively with our volunteer base versus people using the emergency room as a primary care provider.”
Hundreds of volunteers, from doctors and nurses to dentists and pharmacists will be on hand for the event.
A wide range of medical and dental services will be offered at no cost including dental and vision services, glasses, flu vaccines, medical exams preventative screenings and more.
“My favorite thing to say about it is it’s just a day of West Virginians helping West Virginians,” Settle said. “Whether you have insurance, you don’t have insurance, we know people have copays, deductibles, et cetera. So really it’s a ‘no questions asked’ event. Anybody that’s going to come and be patient, we will see them.”
We Care WV Day takes place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at West Virginia Health Right’s East End Clinic, located at 1520 Washington Street East, Charleston.
