With the general election just 46 days away, West Virginia voters can learn more about candidates at planned forums and debates.
The Mountaineers Indivisible Citizen Action Group has invited candidates in seven races in and around the Morgantown area to a public forum this Saturday, Sept. 19.
Invitees include Senate District 13 candidates Sen. Mike Oliverio, R-Monongalia, Del. John Williams, D-Monongalia, and Libertarian party candidate Taylor Richmond as well as House District 79 candidates Del. Evan Hansen, D-Monongalia, and Mountain Party candidate Paige Reiring. Candidates running unopposed like Olivia Miller, Democratic candidate for House District 80 and Del. Anitra Hamilton, D-Monongalia of House District 81, were invited to attend but not to speak.
Similarly, the Jefferson County NAACP has invited Candidates for the Jefferson County Commission to a forum Friday, Oct. 9.
Friday morning students in the State and Local Government course at WVU Potomac State College called for questions from the public for a planned forum Tuesday, Oct. 13. Residents of any county in the districts may submit questions in advance by entering one or more questions online at https://forms.gle/GsnJkFxJvzfuVDog6 or by email directed to stephen.settimi@mail.wvu.edu. Questions will be accepted through Oct. 12. Questions will be randomly selected by the moderator from the pool of questions received.
Aubrey Fisher, a student at WVU Potomac State College, will moderate both sessions. After brief candidate introductions, Fisher will ask candidates one of the submitted questions. Each candidate will have one minute to respond, and the moderator may ask a follow-up.
The Potomac State forum has extended invitations to candidates in seven races, including Sen. Shelley Moore Capito and her challengers Rachel Fetty Anderson and S. Marshall Wilson, as well as Rep. Riley Moore and his challenger Ace Parsi.
Moore and Parsi announced Thursday evening they will debate live on WRNR Radio and Television Oct. 14.
The last day to register to vote in the general election is Oct. 13.
