President Donald Trump has approved $11.7 million in individual flood recovery assistance for Ohio and Marion counties.

Both counties in the Northern Panhandle were hit by devastating flash floods that claimed at least eight lives, including that of a 3-year-old, in June.

In a post on X, Trump said he looks forward “to seeing the State make a full recovery,” adding, “I love West Virginia!”

U.S. Sens. Shelley Moore Capito and Jim Justice and U.S. Reps. Carol Miller and Riley Moore, applauded the announcement in a joint statement.

“The flooding that occurred saw devastating loss of life and property, and we are glad that much-needed help is on the way to help these communities recover and rebuild,” they wrote. They also commended first responders, local leaders, churches and charities who have helped victims on the ground.

Floodwaters swept through on Father’s Day weekend decimating homes, roads and businesses.

In announcing the funding approval, Gov. Patrick Morrisey said “President Trump and his administration has shown once again that they will step up and support West Virginia.”

The approval means individual assistance is available through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, for those who sustained losses due to the flooding. Assistance can include emergency home repairs, private bridges and roads, temporary housing, transportation, moving and storage, funeral expenses, as well as medical, dental, legal and childcare services.

After filing claims with their insurance providers, residents of Marion and Ohio counties can apply online by visiting www.DisasterAssistance.gov, of calling FEMA’s helpline at 1-800-621-3362 (FEMA) from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
