A bill to expand both the definition and the penalties for indecent exposure advanced in the Senate Tuesday.
Senate Bill 1083 clarifies and expands the legal definition of “indecent exposure.” If the bill becomes law, the term would include undressing in a locker room assigned to the opposite sex “in a manner likely to cause affront or alarm.” It would also require sex offender registration when a minor victim is involved and would expand the penalties for anyone convicted of repeat offenses of the crime.
Sen. Tom Willis, R-Berkeley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, told his colleagues it’s important for someone engaging in such behavior to be found guilty of indecent exposure because the public understands what that means.
The policy behind this bill is to keep biological males out of women’s locker rooms, keep members of one sex out of the opposite biological sex’s locker rooms.
The bill advanced to third reading.
