Plenty Of Mothman Sightings Expected In Point Pleasant This Weekend
Cryptid fans are once again heading to Point Pleasant, West Virginia this weekend for the annual Mothman Festival.
Every third weekend in September, the population of the town swells from roughly 4,000 to four times that number – or more.
Crowds come to commemorate the sighting of the red-eyed alien-looking creature with wings reportedly seen in the area dozens of times in the late 1960s.
The late Bob Roach sculpted the iconic 12-foot Mothman statue, a downtown landmark. New this year, his daughter opens The Mothman Statue Legacy with authentic replicas of the famous statue.
The free festival began in 2002 as a way to boost tourism after the success of the supernatural thriller “The Mothman Prophecies.” It runs Saturday and Sunday in downtown Point Pleasant, and features bands, movies, paranormal speakers, food, activities and everything you can imagine, from candles to coffees, with a Mothman theme.
