This week’s encore broadcast of Mountain Stage was recorded in Franklin, Tennessee during at our first of two shows at The Franklin Theatre. Host Kathy Mattea welcomed Madi Diaz, Judith Owen, The Dead Tongues, Swamp Dogg, and Tim Heidecker.
Judith Owen, the jazzy Welsh vocalist (and self-described “drama queen”) has our Song of the Week. Judith performed the cult classic, “I Put A Spell On You,” originally recorded in 1956 by “Screamin’ Jay” Hawkins and famously interpreted by Nina Simone, accompanied by her all-star band of New Orleans musicians, “The Callers.” Owen’s version of the song also appears on her 16-track live album, Judith Owen Comes Alive, recorded in Bern, Switzerland.
