Gov. Jim Justice said Wednesday, in his online briefing, that on Monday, he’d announce a special session.

Its primary purpose: to enact another 5 percent reduction in the state’s personal income tax.

Justice said he’d promised the state’s voters to give them relief from higher prices due to inflation.

“I mean, for crying out loud, we’ve got 400-plus million dollars in the income tax reserve fund,” Justice said. “If we want to put some more money in there, let’s do that.”

Lawmakers could also consider a child care credit for families, something the governor and legislators discussed during this year’s regular session but ultimately did not enact.

The legislature will meet early next week for an interim session, held in Parkersburg.
