Del. Mick Bates of Raleigh County discussed his party’s proposals in the House to increase road funding. Those proposals have failed so far this session, but now Bates and other members of the House are waiting to see what Senators will do with a bi-partisan bill that would increase some fees in order to generate revenue.
A bill to allow anyone to carry a concealed weapon without a permit in West Virginia heads to the governor’s desk, but Governor Tomblin’s proposal to cut funding to public schools will no longer be making its way through the legislative process.

One of the world’s rarest plants, the Peters Mountain Mallow, lives on only one mountainside, in the New River Valley along the West Virginia line. Last year, scientists counted just five plants still alive – and the recent drought means protecting it from extinction is getting tougher.
