[CHARLESTON, WV] – West Virginia Public Broadcasting’s (WVPB) News Department and Us & Them Podcast has received awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association’s (RTDNA) 2026 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards.
The WVPB News Department was honored with Overall Excellence in the Radio Small Market category. Us & Them, which is hosted by Trey Kay, was honored with Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the episode Us & Them: Black West Virginians With Substance Use Disorder Face Unique Challenges. Regional winners automatically move on to the national round for consideration.
The Radio Television Digital News Association has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Regional award recipients have demonstrated the spirit of excellence that Murrow set as a standard for the profession of broadcast and digital journalism. WVPB competes in Region 8 — Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.
“Telling West Virginia’s story is a responsibility we take very seriously in the news department at West Virginia Public Broadcasting,” said Director of Broadcast Journalism, Eric Douglas. “It is truly an honor to be recognized by our peers with this award for the work we do every day. “
Episodes of Us & Them drop twice a month on wvpublic.org with the second episode airing on WVPB’s statewide radio network on the fourth Thursday (8 p.m.) and Saturday (3 p.m.) of the month. Shows are also distributed by PRX, Public Radio Exchange and are accessible anywhere podcasts are available.
