A 75-year-old man died Sunday from an apparently rock-climbing fall near Seneca Rocks.
Following reports of a fallen climber, emergency responders responded to an incident near a rock feature in Smoke Hole Canyon near Seneca Rocks in Pendleton County’s Monongahela National Forest.
They found the victim from Virginia deceased due to suspected injuries from a 50-foot fall, according to a Facebook post from the Pendleton County Office of Emergency Management.
No further information has been released at this time.
Park signs and historical reports note between 15 and 22 fatal falls since the early 1970s in Seneca Rocks.
This is the second such accident this year. A 76-year-old man, named Mike Robinson, also from Virginia, died in a fall on the east face of Seneca Rocks in July.
