WVSU To Hold Winter Tree ID Workshop

Despite winter setting in, West Virginia State University (WVSU) is offering a learning experience for lovers of the outdoors. 

WVSU Extension Service will host a free tree identification workshop at the Claudia L. Workman Wildlife Education Center in Alum Creek on Saturday, Dec. 13.

Participants will learn practical techniques for identifying trees in winter by observing bark, buds and other key features.

Each attendee will receive a winter tree identification guide and a hand lens to support their learning during and after the session.

This free workshop is open to all and welcomes landowners, educators and anyone interested in nature. 

Attendants are asked to dress appropriately for the weather and expect some light hiking outdoors as part of the program.

Accurately identifying plant species can help with conservation efforts, such as attempts to restore the American Chestnut.
