Breeze Airways announced it will bring back nonstop service from Charleston to Tampa, Florida this fall. The airline acknowledged it is also eyeing four more destinations in the next 24 months.
“That service will be on Mondays and Fridays, and the one way fares for the Tampa route will start at $49,” said Fiona Kiesel, the airline’s chief guest officer.
Kiesel said Breeze currently offers service out of Charleston to Newark and Orlando, with seasonal service to Myrtle Beach continuing on to Tampa. Nonstop flights directly to Tampa begin October 3.
Kiesel was joined by Gov. Patrick Morrisey and a host of city officials for the announcement. She said Breeze expects to add four more destinations from Yeager over the next two years with the state hoping for the “Gambling Capitol of the World” and either Dallas or Houston.
“We’re going to add more cities in the future. We’re really, really excited about that. And again, the state is focusing on Las Vegas and Texas,” she said, without specifically committing to those destinations. “We’ve continued to see demand for our product, both to and from Charleston.”
Airport Director and CEO Dominique Ranieri said since entering into an agreement with Breeze Airways in 2022, Yeager has more than doubled its nonstop destinations.
“Governor Morrissey understands that this airport is not just about convenient vacations. It’s about jobs and tourism and long term growth,” Ranieri said.
Airport officials said since the low-cost carrier had its inaugural flight to Charleston in 2023, the competition has spurred a 12.5% overall decrease in the cost of fares to and from Charleston.
