An annual summertime staple for West Virginia, the Charleston Sternwheel Regatta will return to Kanawha County this weekend with events running from Thursday, July 3 to Sunday, July 6.

First held in 1971, the regatta began as a two-day boat race. It grew into a wider summer celebration, bringing residents together for concerts, carnivals, community events and more. After a hiatus from 2009 to 2021, the regatta returned in 2022 and has been held annually since.

New events this year include regatta dinner cruises and sightseeing boat tours. The regatta carnival will also be held daily from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.

This year’s regatta will also bring artists from different genres to Charleston for a weekend full of musical performances. Featured artists include Busta Rhymes, KC and the Sunshine Band, Carly Pearce, Josh Pantry, Jefferson Starship and more.
