Huntington’s City Council is considering allowing home brewers to expand their operations.
One proposed ordinance would allow an increased number of employees to work out of the home. The other proposal would allow residential “nano-breweries” to produce up to 15,750 gallons, or 500 barrels, a year with a special permit.
The Herald-Dispatch reports that City Council discussed the proposals on first reading at Monday’s regular meeting.
Assistant city attorney Erica Hostetter says few homes in Huntington have the capacity to house the equipment needed to produce 500 barrels a year. But city officials believe it’s necessary to move forward with the ordinances for those who do have the capability.
