According to the Mine Safety and Health Administration, Colton Walls, a longwall electrician, received an injury to the back of his head on Sept. 28.
The 34-year-old Walls died on Oct. 4. He had 14 years of experience.
Walls’ death was the second in recent months at the Arch Resources Leer mine. William J. Crandall, 57, was killed there in August.
Last month, Gary A. Chapman, 33, was killed at the Arch Resources Mountaineer II mine in Logan County.
Arch miners in West Virginia account for three of the 10 total coal mine fatalities nationwide this year. Arch, based in St. Louis, did not respond to a request for comment.
Arch plans to merge with Consol Energy, based in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, early next year.
