The grant is part of ARISE – the Appalachian Regional Initiative for Stronger Economies. It will be used to help students prepare for in-demand career opportunities in West Virginia.
The project called “Empowerment Collaborative: Increasing Student Empowerment in Appalachia,” prepares middle school students in West Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania to solve real world problems in their communities through simulation and engagement.
The project’s four-year plan is to expand the Empowerment Collaborative model into a total of six middle schools.
Friday’s announcement builds on $11.5 million in ARISE funding awarded to date to Connect Humanity, Education Alliance, and Virginia Tech, bringing their total investment to nearly $12 million.
