State Of Preparedness Ordered For Debby

Storm clouds gathering
Storms are on the for much of the state from the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby.
The Elk River nears flood stage after heavy rains.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Debby are expected to bring rainfall, high winds and potential flash flooding to much of the state.

In response, Gov. Jim Justice has declared a state of preparedness for all 55 West Virginia counties.

“While we need the rain in West Virginia, we need to absolutely be ready for the potential impact Tropical Storm Debby may bring,” Justice said. “I have ordered our state agencies to prepare to respond immediately if necessary. We’re ready to provide all possible resources should flooding or other weather incidents occur.”

The storm is expected to primarily hit the Eastern Panhandle of the state and continue up the I-95 corridor, but just a slight shift in the storm track could bring heavy rain to central West Virginia as well.

The state of preparedness allows the West Virginia Emergency Management Division to prepare personnel and resources for quick response to any emergency that may develop.

Coordinating agencies have been placed on standby to report to the State Emergency Operations Center.
