Taking Pictures In Appalachia And Confederate Monument Debate This West Virginia Morning

On this West Virginia Morning, we talk about pictures — and who takes them and what that means in Appalachia. Also, in this show, we hear about a county court in Kentucky that passed a resolution for a Confederate monument to remain on the grounds there, and we bring you this week’s Mountain Stage Song of the Week.

West Virginia University has reported its highest number of daily coronavirus cases among students for the second straight day. Dave Mistich has more.  

A county court in Kentucky unanimously passed a resolution in mid-July stating a Confederate monument on courthouse grounds would remain – this after weeks of protest, and protests persist. Liam Niemeyer has more from Calloway County Kentucky.

Photography in Appalachia has a long and complicated history. Who gets to take our pictures? Who gets to tell our story? Their influence has continued for decades — inspiring countless groups with varied musical styles.
