Secretary of State Kris Warner and his Elections Division staff are hosting the state’s County Clerk Election Training Conference this week, Aug. 18 to Aug. 20.
More than 150 county clerks, deputy clerks and election administrators from all 55 counties have converged on Canaan Valley Resort to discuss new state election legislation, accessibility compliance for polling locations and election day preparation, voter registration, federal guidelines, absentee voting, canvassing, and election night reporting.
Warner is the state’s chief elections officer. But he highlights that the election process on election day is administered by the county clerks.
“We’re all gonna be working to make sure that we run the 2026 election seamlessly,” he said in a video announcing the completion of his clerk visits.
Last week, Warner completed visiting all 55 county clerks at their home offices, completing an inauguration day promise.
“I promised the county clerks that I would bring my office to them,” he said. “I want all 55 county clerks to know that we recognize them as their county’s chief elections officer. I want to know what they need to keep their elections fair, secure, and safe for all voters.”
