Passing Down The Greenbrier County Fiddle

Listen

On this West Virginia Morning, we’ll explore some old fiddling traditions unique to very specific geographic locations.

On this week’s episode of Inside Appalachia we explore some Appalachian traditions. Many of which would be lost if it weren’t for experts sharing their knowledge with the next generation. The West Virginia Humanities Council has been promoting that exchange through their Folklife Apprentice Program.

One master and apprentice duo that completed the program recently spent a year preserving a style of old-time fiddling. Our folklife reporter Caitlin Tan brings us the story.

And our Mountain Stage Song of the Week is “Hold Your Head Up High,” from the New England quartet Darlingside.
