Mushroom Hunting And North Mississippi Allstars Has Our Song Of The Week On This West Virginia Morning

On this West Virginia Morning, mushroom hunting is a mountain tradition that goes back centuries, but recently, older generations realized it was slipping away. Folkways reporter Nicole Musgrave went to the Mountain Mushroom Festival in Irvine, Kentucky and brings us this story.

Also, in this show, in declaring an emergency over low staffing levels at West Virginia’s corrections facilities, Gov. Jim Justice called on the National Guard to fill the gap. However, the number of vacancies and the number of soldiers and airmen involved in the mission are quite far apart. Randy Yohe has the story.
