This week on Inside Appalachia, during a pandemic, where do you give birth? Also, we’ll have the story of a family that
cultivated an heirloom tomato in West Virginia. It took a lot of work. And, a musical tradition brought people together — even when they couldn’t gather in person.
Our Song of the Week comes from singer-songwriter and guitarist Joy Clark. “Tell It To The Wind” was written in a moment of gratitude while Joy was on tour in Waterford, Mississippi at Foxfire Ranch. In this moment, she realized she had everything she dreamed of as a child. On her Band Camp page, Joy writes “I had my guitar, my boots, and horses! My heart was filled with gratitude and instantly I had an entire chorus.”
Tune in to one of these affiliate stations starting Friday, March 14 to hear Joy’s full set, plus live performances by country singer and songwriter Kip Moore, Old Dominion guitarist and hit songwriter Brad Tursi, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Marlin of Watchhouse and Mighty Poplar brings the Andrew Marlin Stringband, and West Virginia “Ya’llternative” rock band Matt Mullins & The Bringdowns.
Our spring broadcast season continues this week with a premiere episode of Mountain Stage, recorded at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, WV. Host Kathy Mattea welcomes Oliver Wood, Stephen Wilson Jr., Dar Williams, TopHouse, and Cloud Cult.
On this West Virginia Morning, we look at a bill that would make opioid treatment centers in the state unlawful, and The David Mayfield Parade brings our Song of the Week.
This week's premiere broadcast of Mountain Stage will kick off a fresh new Spring season of live music from the Mountain State of West Virginia. This week's episode was recorded on Dec. 1, 2024 at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, WV with Stephen Kellogg, Jill Sobule, Mindy Smith, Caleb Caudle & The Sweet Critters, and The David Mayfield Parade.
