This week on Inside Appalachia, we talk with East Tennessee’s Amythyst Kiah. Her new album contemplates the cosmos. Also, hair salons are important gathering places where Black women can find community. And West Virginia poet Torli Bush uses story to tackle tough subjects.
Our Song of the Week is “Planetarium” by Blitzen Trapper. The band stopped by Mountain Stage for their third appearance during their latest tour promoting their album 100’s of 1000’s, Millions of Billion.
This album was produced by the band’s lead singer and songwriter, Eric Earley and features a collection of songs that reflect on his musical beginnings, infused with new perspectives he gained through the exploration of Buddhism and meditation.
Hear Blitzen Trapper’s full set, plus more live performances by Low Cut Connie, Town Mountain, and Humbird on this week’s broadcast when you tune in to one of these NPR stations starting Friday, Dec. 13.
