Michael Jason Barrett is the Republican Candidate for the West Virginia Senate District 16 2026 election. Barrett was elected to the State Senate in 2022 and is running for re-election. Previously, he was elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates in 2012.
Barrett has spent time serving on the boards of the Eastern Panhandle Empowerment Center – where he was board president, and the Eastern Regional Airport Authority. He is also a member of the Martinsburg Elks Lodge #778.
Barrett is originally from Martinsburg, WV. He graduated from Martinsburg High School and then attended Shepherd University before joining his father’s small business. Barrett now owns multiple businesses of his own in the Eastern Panhandle.
