The West Virginia School Building Authority has reversed its denial of Fayette County’s plan to consolidate four high schools.
Media outlets report that the authority approved an amendment to the school district’s educational facilities plan on Monday. The authority had rejected the amendment on Sept. 28.
Fayette County wants to combine Fayetteville, Meadow Bridge, Midland Trail and Oak Hill high schools into a new school. Monday’s decision allows the school district to apply for funding for the proposed school.
Fayette County plans to ask for $39.6 million from the authority over three years. The school system would provide $17 million in local funds.
Other counties also are seeking funding for school projects. The authority plans to allocate a total of $50 million to projects in December.
