A West Virginia-based Boy Scouts of America council has broken ground for a new $3.7 million leadership center.
The Buckskin Council’s 13,000-square-foot center in Charleston will be named in honor of H. Bernard Werhle Sr., a philanthropist recognized by the organization as “West Virginia’s first Boy Scout.”
The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports that the center will include museum displays, conference rooms, a scout shop and other amenities. It will incorporate the council’s existing building.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Tuesday.
The Buckskin Council serves 22 counties in West Virginia, four counties in Kentucky and three counties in both Virginia and Ohio.
