ALASKAN NATIVE INVOLVEMENT

Molly of Denali includes Alaska Native voices in all aspects of the production, both on camera and behind the scenes.  Every indigenous character is voiced by an indigenous actor.  Alaska Native screenwriters and producers are also part of bringing the series to life.  A working group of Alaska Native advisors provided guidance for the series and, through scriptwriting fellowships, Alaska Native writers are part of the production.

CURRICULUM

A  foundational literacy concept, informational text, is defined as any text whose primary purpose is to convey information.  Molly of Denali is informed by an informational text curriculum, with maps, calendars, tables, books, websites, weather reports, text messages, articles, elders’ stories, archives, photos, and a vlog that Molly creates and uses in the series.

“Ask Molly” is a series of interstitials that will give kids a look at what life is like in Alaska.  These videos will be available on the PBS Kids You Tube channel and at pbskids.org/molly.
