Huntington has advanced to the finals of the America’s Best Communities competition.
Huntington was selected by a panel of judges this week to be one of eight finalists in a national competition for America’s Best Community. According to a press release, America’s Best Communities aim to inspire economic revitalization in small towns and cities across the country.
As one of the eight finalists, Huntington received $100,000 and will have 11 months to begin implementing its strategies. The city’s revitalization plan, called the Huntington Innovation Project — or HIP — outlines projects and ideas that will jumpstart the local economy, such as the revitalization of brownfield areas in the cities’ Highlawn neighborhood.
The top three communities that make the largest impact and show the greatest potential for sustaining the revitalization will be selected grand prize winners.
The top community will receive $3 million, with second place earning $2 million and $1 million for third.
