The Public Employees Insurance Agency (PEIA) is proposing large cost increases in its new annual plan. Premium increases remained frozen for years until hikes in 2023 and this year. Now, the board is looking to plug financial holes with more cost hikes.
If approved, premiums will increase by 12 percent for retirees, 14 percent for state employees, and 16 percent for local government employees. Some copays will more than double. And average deductibles and out of pocket maximums would increase by $355 for state employees and $310 for local government employees.
Those with access to PEIA range from local to state government jobs, including many at WVPB.
PEIA will finalize changes Thursday, Dec. 5.
