A longtime West Virginia lawmaker has resigned in the final week of the 2018 legislative session.

The 39th District seat in the House of Delegates held by 67-year-old Ron Walters is vacant following the Republican insurance agent’s resignation Wednesday after more than 20 years.

Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney Chuck Miller told the Charleston Gazette-Mail that Walters also has agreed never to seek office again and withdraw a lien against a Wayne County property.

Miller said that was part of a deal with his office, which was investigating allegations Walters filed a false lien against the property.

Walters said he resigned “for personal reasons only” and denies filing a false lien.
