A suspect in a ginseng investigation faces charges of shooting at officers who were trying to serve warrants.

Division of Natural Resources Capt. W.W. Brogan III tells the Charleston Gazette-Mail that DNR officers arrested Bill Wolfe following a brief standoff on Saturday night.

Brogan says the officers went to Wolfe’s home in the Oak Hill area to serve warrants related to illegal ginseng activity. He says Wolfe became agitated and fired a shot at the officers.

Brogan says the officers fell back and Wolfe barricaded himself in his home. The suspect surrendered about 15 to 20 minutes later.

Wolfe is charged with felony wanton endangerment, obstructing an officer, and multiple misdemeanors related to the ginseng.

Brogan says the investigation is ongoing.
