State School Building Authority Awards Funds to 13 Counties

The West Virginia School Building Authority’s board has awarded $7.7 million to 13 school systems for improvement projects.

The board provided funding for projects in Barbour, Berkeley, Cabell, Fayette, Grant, Mason, Mercer, Monongalia, Nicholas, Putnam, Randolph, Ritchie and Tyler counties on Monday. The SBA combined two years’ worth of grant funding and gave it all out Monday.

One of the projects includes a $1 million fund for Fayette County to build a six-classroom addition to Midland Trail High School that will then allow for the closure of Ansted Middle School.

The board denied funding to Kanawha, Gilmer, Lincoln and Summers counties. The counties made requests ranging from $875,000 to $1 million.
