In about a month, medical cannabis growers, processors, dispensaries and laboratories will have the option of applying for permit applications from the state.
The West Virginia Office of Medical Cannabis announced this week it will upload an online application to its website at 3 p.m. on Dec. 19.
The application will remain available until Feb 18. There will be no paper applications.
Jason Frame, who directs the Office of Medical Cannabis, called his office’s announcement a “key step in the process to make medical cannabis available to West Virginians with serious medical conditions.”
The state Department of Health and Human Resources said during the summer that West Virginians likely will have to wait a couple of years before the state officially opens its medical cannabis program. In August, the state treasurer’s office said it was reviewing applications from four banks who bid to handle future deposits related to the state’s developing medical cannabis program.
