Chubby Checker hosts this first-ever MY MUSIC special on the golden era of rock ‘n’ roll dance music for kids of all ages. From the Eisenhower era explosion of Bill Haley and Jerry Lee Lewis to the 1960s cultural phenomenon of “The Twist” to the youthful frat-rock sounds of the Kingsmen, this is a good-time celebration of classic party music that has spanned generations.
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band: 50YearsCirclin’ Back – Saturday, June 4 at 8 p.m.
Celebrate the groundbreaking band’s musical milestones and hits along with special guests Vince Gill, John Prine, Jackson Browne, Alison Krauss, Rodney Crowell, Jerry Jeff Walker, Jimmy Ibbotson, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas and Byron House.
Highwaymen Live at Nassau Colosseum – Saturday June 4 at 9:30 p.m.
The Highwaymen were American country music’s first bonafide “supergroup.” Each of the quartet’s members–Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson–had achieved considerable musical and cultural success prior to the formation of The Highwaymen in 1985. The concert was recorded in 1990 and features such classic songs as “The Highwayman”, “Big River”, “Me and Bobby McGee”, “Always On My Mind and “Luckenbach Texas”.
Carol Burnette’s Favorite Sketches – Monday, June 6 at 8 p.m.
Join beloved funny lady Carol Burnett as she presents her own personally selected favorite moments from her long-running variety series “The Carol Burnett Show.” Laugh along with Carol and her hilarious troupe of regulars — Harvey Korman, Tim Conway, Vicki Lawrence and Lyle Waggoner — and special guests Steve Martin and Betty White. Several of the sketches Carol selected include footage from the first five years of the series, which have never been re-aired.
Kingston Trio Celebration – Wednesday, June 8 at 8 p.m.
Enjoy the groundbreaking folk group’s biggest hits and more 1950s and ’60s chart toppers, performed by the current trio with Bob Shane, Timothy B. Schmit, Al Jardine, Trini Lopez, Barry McGuire, Sana Christian, The Limeliters and Josh Reynolds.
Trains Around North American – Sunday, June 12 at 7 p.m.
Hosted by Grammy-winning musician and storyteller David Holt, TRAINS AROUND NORTH AMERICA traces America’s railroad history, telling the unforgettable stories of the continent’s historic and scenic tourist railroads. More than just a tour, these stories capture railroads as they defined the spirit of North America, creating a new industry and re-writing transportation history. The program transports viewers to a variety of railways – from quiet and relaxing trains featuring spectacular meals and views, to fast-paced trains full of glitz, glamour and movie stars. Surviving Prostate Cancer – Thursday, June 16 at 9 p.m.
This year an estimated 230,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. Upwards of 400,000 more men will be diagnosed with prostatitis, a known precursor to prostate cancer. This is the first film created specifically to address overall prostate health, prostate cancer prevention, and proven “natural” treatments a patient can consider either instead of, or in addition to, the common conventional alternatives.
