On this West Virginia Morning, our election coverage continues with a look at West Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District. Republican incumbent Alex Mooney faces Democrat Cathy Kunkel.
Mooney and Kunkel are offering widely different visions for West Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District. As Brittany Patterson reports, Mooney is aligning himself closely with President Donald Trump, while Kunkel is offering a more populist vision for the region.
The 2020 political campaigns are in high gear, and Election Day is just weeks away. This year, one West Virginia man watches from the sidelines, knowing what it’s like to put on a statewide campaign. Four years ago, Bo Copley was an unemployed mine maintenance worker who got the chance to ask then-candidate Hillary Clinton a question that resonated with many people. In 2018, Copley waged a campaign for Joe Manchin’s U.S. Senate seat.
A new documentary, “The Campaign of Miner Bo,” which has aired on WVPB, shadows Copley’s unsuccessful run for office and the things he learned from the experience. On the latest episode of the Us & Them podcast, host Trey Kay speaks with Copley and documentarian Todd Drezner.
