On this West Virginia Morning, our election coverage continues in the Secretary of State’s office. Also, in this show, we hear a report from the Eastern Panhandle where U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos visited this week, and we bring you this week’s Mountain Stage Song of the Week.
West Virginia’s Secretary of State holds a variety of responsibilities. The person on the job is tasked with overseeing elections, maintaining business registrations and licensing, and keeps records on the executive branch, among other duties. In this year’s general election, two candidates with experience in the post are squaring off against one another: Republican Mac Warner and Democrat Natalie Tennant. The two candidates differ significantly in their vision for the office, and as Dave Mistich reports, the race between them has gotten very personal.
U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos met with students, parents, teachers and service personnel from Jefferson County Schools in Kearneysville this week. She came to highlight the success the district has experienced since resuming school Sept. 8. Liz McCormick has more.
