Title: Director of Programming           Department: Programming

Location: Charleston, WV            Reports to: Executive Director

Employment Type: Full-Time

The Director of Programming is responsible for scheduling program material for WVPB’s statewide radio and television networks. The Director of Programming works with other staff members to develop local programming and promotional/interstitial material. The program director also works with national radio and television program distributors, as well as outside producers to bring programs to WVPB. The Director of Programming is guided in decision making by such factors as budget available, audience trends, and the mission of WVPB to educate, inform and inspire. The Director of Programming also works directly with on-air radio hosts, television production and master control staff, and digital staff to ensure content meets WVPB’s mission and makes it to air and online. This position is not directly responsible for generating revenue, but works with development, membership and underwriting departments with on-air fundraising campaigns and oversees staff that schedules underwriting announcements.

Required Experience

  • Four (4) years of progressive responsibility in programming and operations in public or commercial media.
  • Two (2) years of progressive responsibility in management and leadership.
  • Familiarity with public radio and television programs.

Preferred Experience

  • Proven ability to grow audience through management of day-to-day programming.
  • Demonstrated audience analysis skills.
  • Successful involvement with on-air membership/fundraising drives.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in broadcasting or related field.

 Compensation

Salary is commensurate with experience. This is a Full-Time, Exempt (40 hours/week, M-F) position, with some call outs when needed. Benefits offered — medical, dental, eye, and state retirement.
