How Can We Resolve the Teacher Work Stoppage?

Every public school in West Virginia was closed Thursday and Friday as thousands of school employees flooded the state Capitol, asking for larger pay increases and a fix for the state employees health insurance system. The Legislature has already passed a 2 percent pay raise for all state employees and promised to freeze insurance premiums for 17 months - but many teachers and school employees say it's not enough.

"After Midnight" finale from Mountain Stage

The Mountain Stage finale is always something special and something that you often don't hear on the radio broadcast of the show. 

We were lucky enough to have a camera at a recent Mountain Stage and we captured this nice version of JJ Cale's "After Midnight". Cale performed on Mountain Stage in 1996 and recently passed away.

West Virginia’s substance abuse problem is one focus of the Integrated Behavioral Health Conference in Charleston this week.  Professionals from health care, government and law enforcement are meeting to find the best ways to handle substance abuse and other mental health needs.

Department of Health and Human Resources Cabinet Secretary Karen Bowling said the idea of the conference began a couple years ago and that the goal is to combine resources in hopes of learning and progressing the field.

Kathy Kelly is an a peace activist, a pacifist, and an author. She’s been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize three times. Her life's work has been traveling to war zones around the world to be a voice for people who are endangered and trapped by the political games of governments battling over economic bones. She's visiting Morgantown this week talking with students from West Virginia University, members of the media, and community members.

The annual festival returned to the Greenway on Bethlehem's south side for its third year on Saturday. The free event included eco-friendly exhibitors, vegan and vegetarian-friendly food vendors, pet adoption organizations, speakers, and live cooking demonstrations. There was also plenty of live music for fest-goers to enjoy with Godfrey Daniels and WLEV each hosting a stage with performers. Sunny skies and comfortable temperatures in the 70's helped make the day a success.

It's official; Natalie Tennant enters U.S. Senate race

 West Virginia Secretary of State Natalie Tennant officially entered the U.S. Senate race. The Democrat announced her candidacy in front of about 100 supporters at the Tamarack Conference Center in Beckley Tuesday. 

“I am here after serious thought intense conversations with my family and a whole lot of prayer," Tennant said, "I am here today to tell you that I’m running for the United States Senate.”

After walking through a crowd of democrats, Natalie Tennant took the podium to share some of her views on national political issues.
