If you missed any of Masterpiece Theatre’s Victoria episodes this season, this is your time to catch up – or just binge watch. On Sunday, February 26, beginning at 4 p.m. WVPB is bringing you all of the Victoria episodes you may have missed – just one week before the dramatic and thrilling conclusion.
The eight-hour drama follows the diminutive Queen from the age of 18 when she was crowned, through her relationship with Lord Melbourne and her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert.
During this event, several Victoria items will be offered, including the Season One DVD set with 20 minutes of bonus features, and the beautiful hardback book by bestselling author, Daisy Goodwin, who created and wrote the PBS Masterpiece drama. The finale airs Sunday, March 5th at 9 p.m.
West Virginia Public Broadcasting is proud to announce a new program from America’s Test Kitchen (ATK) founder Christopher Kimball, Milk Street Radio. With ATK ceasing production of its radio show (television will continue) at year-end, the timing of Kimball’s new adventure couldn’t be more perfect.
The wide world of food is coming to Christopher Kimball’s Milk Street Radio and in turn, to foodies everywhere. From street food in Thailand to a bakery in a Syrian refugee camp to how one scientist uses state of the art pollen analysis to track the origins of honey (and also to solve crimes), Milk Street Radio goes anywhere and everywhere to ask questions and get answers about cooking, food, culture, wine, farming, restaurants, literature, and the lives and cultures of the people who grow, produce, and create the food we eat.
With a four-star cast of contributors, the long-time public TV and radio host brings Christopher Kimball’s Milk Street Radio to West Virginia Public Broadcasting beginning January 1, 2017. The program will air Sundays at 3pm.
Former West Virginian Bridget Lancaster and other ATK personalities will join Lynne Rossetto Kasper to share practical, hands-on culinary expertise on The Splendid Table, which airs Sundays at 2pm.
On Monday nights, due to its unfortunate mid-season cessation of production and distribution, another program change has occurred with World of Opera.
Director of Programming Kristi George explained, “After we got over the surprise, we learned that the source of live opera performances, the European Broadcasting Union, was no longer able to provide them.”
George added, “We were assured that numerous options for continuing the program were explored, but none had been fruitful.”
WVPB will air holiday specials with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra to round out the remaining Mondays in December. Then beginning in January, the BBC World Service will air from 9pm throughout the night.

Live statewide events for the Met are being held through May. The Met’s 11th season of Live in HD is transmitted live in high-definition cinema simulcasts at three area locations: Huntington Mall – Barboursville, Nitro Stadium 12, and Morgantown Stadium 12. The 2016-2017 schedule includes the following:
Marilyn DiVita, Director of Development and Marketing, states, “Between the quality of the Met’s award-winning HD broadcasts at local cinemas and the playbills provided by the Friends of West Virginia Public Broadcasting at each event, it’s almost like being at the Met in New York City.
“Thanks to the volunteer efforts of the Friends, we are pleased to again offer a limited number of complimentary movie theater passes to the Met event.”

The West Virginia Channel will broadcast an energy symposium this weekend that was part of the inauguration of Shepherd University President Mary J.C. Hendrix.
The symposium was held earlier this spring, and it brought together leaders in renewable energy fields to discuss ways a university like Shepherd can strengthen opportunities for West Virginia students to find careers in energy.
The symposium is titled, “The University’s Role in Translating Energy Challenges into Business and Employment Opportunities.”
One of the panelists was Michael Polsky – founder, president, and CEO of Invenergy LLC, which owns the Beech Ridge Energy Storage Project in Greenbrier County.
Polsky announced during the symposium that Beech Ridge would partner with Shepherd to hire a student each summer to learn about real-world applications of renewable energy.
Students in the Shepherd University television production classes recorded the event.

Missed seeing this year’s live performance of Joy to the World with Bob Thompson and guest vocalist Lena Seikaly? No humbugs here! You can watch it this Sunday, December 20 on WVPB television (7pm on WVPB HD and 11pm on WVPB-2).
Now in its 23rd year, Joy to the World is an annual live performance holiday jazz program hosted by pianist Bob Thompson and produced by West Virginia Public Broadcasting. In addition to a distinguished solo career as the leader of the Charleston-based Bob Thompson Unit, Thompson has also been a member of the Mountain Stage band since 1991. Earlier this year he was inducted into the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame.
For this 2015 show, Bob Thompson and his band are joined by guest vocalist Lena Seikaly, a fresh voice on the national jazz scene from Washington, D.C. Most recently she was recognized as a 2015 semifinalist in the Thelonious Monk Institute International Jazz Vocals Competition. Named “one of Washington’s preeminent jazz singers” and “brightest voices in jazz” by The Washington Post, Lena is already making her mark as both a revivalist of traditional jazz vocals, as well as an innovator in contemporary vocal jazz styles.
Sunday’s Joy to the World broadcast features such holiday favorites as “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “The Christmas Waltz” and “Christmas Time is Here.”
