Mountain Stage is a production of West Virginia Public Broadcasting and distributed by NPR Music. The program is heard on over 200 public radio stations nationwide. This episode is scheduled for distribution on Friday December 1. The show is available as a podcast and you can watch some of our favorite performances on our VuHaus Channel.
We’re all excited to welcome our next special guest-host, television and Broadway star, and West Virginia native, Michael Cerveris on Sunday October 22. We certainly aren’t the only ones filling his dance card these days. Known widely for his role on TV’s “Fringe” and his Tony winning performance in Broadway’s “Fun Home,” Cerveris has been seen recently as Ramses IV on Amazon Prime’s reboot of the super-hero comedy “The Tick.” News also broke recently that the hit FOX TV show “Gotham” has cast Cerveris to play Professor Pyg in the show’s upcoming fourth season, returning September 21.
With all that villainy out of his system, it’ll be friendly neighborhood guest-hosting for Cerveris on Sunday October 22 when he comes back to WV to host Mountain Stage as part of FestivALL Fall. The lineup will showcase the first solo-performance by the Indigo Girls’ Emily Saliers, indie-pop duo Overcoats and just announced, return appearances from former Varnaline and Gob Iron member Anders Parker, seasoned pop songsmith Seth Glier, and the first appearance from atmospheric Americana artist Becca Mancari.
Tickets for October 22 are $30 in advance, available online, by phone at 877.987.6487, or locally at Taylor Books in downtown Charleston. Be sure to check out the FestivALL Fall schedule for a list of events from Oct. 20-22.
Of course, that’s not all. One glimpse at our live-show schedule reveals we have seven events on-sale, which means seven unique opportunities to see an old favorite or discover your next musical adventure.
If you make a sustaining gift of at least$10 a month as a Mountain Stage Member, you’ll get seven days of pre-sale access to all our Culture Center shows, including our upcoming 34th Anniversary celebration, Sunday December 3.

“It was so freeing to pursue the kind of music I truly wanted to make without regard to what I’d done before or who I’m expected to be,” says Saliers. “I hope that this record can take people who think they know me already on a journey that’ll really surprise them.”
This show is also on sale to the public now. You can click here, call 877.987.6487, or stop by Taylor Books in downtown Charleston. Tickets are only $20 until August 31, at which point they will be $30.

Tony Award winning West Virginia Native Michael Cerveris (Fun Home, Assassins) will guest host during FestivALL Fall.
Grammy winning songwriter Dan Wilson added to September 24 line-up.
It may be the dog days of Summer but Mountain Stage is busy planning your live music experiences for the Fall. On Sunday, October 22 Mountain Stage will be a part of FestivALL Fall at the Culture Center Theater. The show’s host and co-founder Larry Groce is excited to welcome special guest-host, Tony Award winning Broadway star, musician and West Virginia native Michael Cerveris.
Cerveris has released several albums and has appeared twice on Mountain Stage with his band Loose Cattle. Widely known for his Broadway roles in Fun Home, The Assassins, The Who’s Tommy, Hedwig and the Angry Itch, and Sweeney Todd, Cerveris also enjoyed a prominent television role in the FOX series “Fringe.” Last year he organized “Take Me Home: a benefit concert for West Virginia” in New York City for victims of the West Virginia floods of 2016. He’ll be appearing in the upcoming Amazon Prime Video live-action comedy series “The Tick.”
With Cerveris at the host’s microphone on October 22, Mountain Stage is happy to welcome back the electro-pop duo Overcoats. This will mark their second appearance on Mountain Stage and their first since the release of their beloved debut “Young.” You can watch a couple of Overcoats songs over at our VuHaus channel.
Tickets for October 22 are available NOW to Mountain Stage Membersfor only $15. All other sales begin on Friday, July 28 at 10 a.m. Advance tickets are only$20 through August 31, $30 after August 31, and $35 on the day of show. Mountain Stage Members make a sustaining contribution at the level of their chosing, and are eligible for special thank-you gifts, discounts and early access to our live shows at the Culture Center.
In other news: We’ve added Grammy-award winning songwriter and producer Dan Wilson to the lineup on Sunday September 24. Wilson’s new record “Re-Covered” features re-imagined versions of songs he has written for, and with, other artists, including “Not Ready To Make Nice,” by The Dixie Chicks, “When The Stars Come Out” by Chris Stapleton, and “Someone Like You,” the monster hit by Adele. We last saw Wilson in 2014 in his native state of Minnesota for one of our Grand Marais shows. He performed some songs from his last solo album, “Love Without Fear,” and the Semisonic hit “Closing Time.” Mountain Stage Fun Fact: Wilson’s first appearance on Mountain Stage was in March, 1992 with his pre-Semisonic group Trip Shakespeare.

Of course, none of this would have happened without your support.
Before we embark on another musical year around the sun, Larry Groce and the Mountain Stage crew have picked out 33 performances that deserve another listen and another round of applause. Interview(s):
Last Sunday’s Mountain Stage was a dream. Between our good friends Ona making their Mountain Stage debut to seeing our first indie music crush Ra Ra Riot synth-pop it out to crushing over Overcoats’ unsigned folktronica sound, the show was our favorite musical moment of 2016 (so far, that is). The show will be available on VuHaus and NPR Music in the near future. In the meantime, you can hear our chats with Ra Ra Riot and Ona on our website and listen to Overcoats on our past show playlists.
