Critical Issues Face West Virginia's Elderly

It’s well known that West Virginia’s population is aging. That is placing a strain on services to the elderly.  Today, the West Virginia Partnership for Elder Living which looks at policy development around aging issues,  is holding a summit at the University of Charleston.  This forum will look at new ways to serve this growing demographic.  Phil Schenk is the Director of the Elder Living Partnership.  He sat down with us to talk about this critical issue.

Senior Groups Rally at West Virginia Capitol for In-Home Care

A rally took place at the West Virginia State Capitol Today to draw attention to issues with in-home care services.

A coalition of groups including the AARP, West Virginia Partnership for Elder Living and the Alzheimer’s Association sponsored the rally to highlight the freeze on a program that allows seniors and the disabled to receive care in their homes.

A news release says the Aged and Disabled Waiver program currently serves more than seven thousand West Virginians.

But currently there is a freeze and more than two thousand applicants are on a waiting list. The groups want the legislature to lift the freeze and eliminate the waiting list.
