West Virginia’s unemployment rate edged up slightly in June.

WorkForce West Virginia reported Tuesday that that state’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate increased two-tenths of a percentage point last month for a rate of 7.4 percent. That’s more than 2 full percentage points above the national average of 5.3 percent.

Total nonfarm employment decreased by 4,500 in June, with the service sector accounting for 3,000 of those jobs.

Since last June, total nonfarm payroll employment has decreased by 8,800.

WorkForce West Virginia says jobless rates rose in 22 counties and were unchanged in six others.

Mingo County’s unemployment rate at 10.4 percent was the only one in double digits. That’s down from 10.7 percent in October.

Monongalia County had the lowest unemployment rate at 3.2 percent, followed by Jefferson at 3.8 percent at Pendleton at 4.0 percent.

The state’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate fell two-tenths of a percentage point to 6.3 percent in November.

Unemployment Up in 45 W. Va. Counties

Unemployment rates rose in 45 of West Virginia’s 55 counties in May.
 
WorkForce West Virginia says the jobless rate in Pocahontas County rose to 12.3 percent, the highest in the state.
 Monongalia County has the state’s lowest unemployment rate at 4.2 percent, followed by Pendelton at 4.5 percent and Taylor at 4.7 percent.
 
Other counties with double-digit unemployment were Mingo (12), Wetzel (11.5), Webster (10.7), Marion (10.3) and Logan (10).
 
The state’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate in May increased three-tenths of a percentage point to 6.3 percent.

W.Va. Jobless Rate Inches Down in April

 West Virginia’s unemployment rate inched down in April to 6 percent.

The seasonally adjusted rate is down one-tenth of a percentage point from March. 

WorkForce West Virginia reported Wednesday that the number of unemployed state residents fell by 100 in April to a total of 48,400 statewide.

The West Virginia rate is less than the national rate of 6.3 percent.

Employment gains in West Virginia were recorded in mining and logging, manufacturing, trade, transportation and utilities, professional and business services, educational and health services, leisure and hospitality and government. They were offset by declines in construction, information services and the financial sector.

     The state’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate in November fell one-tenth of a percentage point to 6.1 percent.
 
     Monongalia County had the state’s lowest unemployment rate at 3 percent, followed by Jefferson at 3.3 percent and Pendleton at 3.8 percent.
 
     Wetzel County’s rate of 10 percent was the state’s highest.
 

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics also released a run down of county by county unemployment numbers earlier this month.
