Mountain Stage Live Show News

Tickets available for Mountain Stage this Sunday. Three July events on sale Friday at 10a.m.

Tickets are still available for this Sunday’s Mountain Stage with Larry Groce at the Culture Center Theater showcasing Grammy winner Loudon Wainwright III, the “punk show-biz” of Nancy And Beth– featuring actresses Megan Mullally (Will & Grace,  Parks & Recreation) and Stephanie Hunt (Friday Night Lights)- plus North Carolina songwriter David Childers, rising Americana group Mipso and songwriter/guitarist Liz Longley.

Wainwright has been coming to Mountain Stage since 1988 and has a new record called “Haven’t Got the Blues (Yet)”. Nancy And Beth were just featured on NPR ‘s All Things Considered and you can read Mullally’s recent interview with the Charleston Gazette-Mail.

Tickets are moving quickly to Mountain Stage at the Clay Center on May 14 with The Del McCoury Band, Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn, Malcolm Holcombe and the Pocahontas County’s own Black Mountain Bluegrass Boys. Pick up those seats at TheClayCenter.org or by phone at 304.561.3570, but don’t wait long.

On sale Friday, May 5 at 10a.m. are three Mountain Stage events scheduled for July. The show will mark 900 episodes on Sunday July 16 at the Culture Center when they welcome Steve Earle & The Dukes, with songs from Earle’s forthcoming “So You Wanna Be An Outlaw”. Also on sale Friday are July 23 with Okkervil River and July 30 featuring St. Paul & The Broken Bones and 8 time CMA Musician of the year, Mac McAnally.

Lest we forget, Mountain Stage will record two shows in June, starting Sunday June 4 at the Culture Center with iconic Canadian songwriter and guitarist Bruce Cockburn, Minnesota based alt-folkies The Pines, and just announced, American Music Club leader and songwriter Mark Eitzel.

Tyler Childers will make his second appearance on Mountain Stage Sunday June 25 as part of FestivALL Charleston. Childers’ new album will be due later this year.

On Sunday June 25 Mountain Stage welcomes assistant producer Joni Deutsch back to the host’s microphone for a special FestivALL Charleston edition of the show with soul-rockers Marcus King Band, arty indie-rocker Kishi Bashi and adopted WV-son Tyler Childers, among others.

Two Live Shows Added to Mountain Stage Schedule

The Mountain Stage team has announced two new events to its upcoming live show schedule. Advance tickets for both events will be $30 and will be placed on sale Friday, February 10 at 10 a.m. Tickets can be purchased online, by phone at 877.987.6487 or locally at Taylor Books in Downtown Charleston. Both shows will be at the Culture Center Theater on the state capitol grounds. More details can be found by visiting the Live Show Schedule at MountainStage.org.

On Sunday May 7 Mountain Stage will welcome back venerable folk singer and sometimes actor Loudon Wainwright III. Wainwright has made 15 appearances on Mountain Stage since 1988, and returns to Charleston for the first time since 2013.  He brought home a Best Traditional Folk Album Grammy in 2010 for “High, Wide & Handsome: The Charlie Poole Project” and his film credits include Judd Apatow’s “Knocked Up,” for which Wainwright also recorded the soundtrack. 

Also appearing on May 7 is the duo Nancy & Beth, comprised of fellow actresses Megan Mullally (Will & Grace, Party Down) and Stephanie Hunt (Friday Night Lights, Californication). The duo announced their upcoming self-titled album, due April 7, and premiered a single recently via Rolling Stone Country.

Prolific songwriter, singer and guitarist Bruce Cockburn returns to Mountain Stage Sunday June 4 at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, WV. Tickets are on sale Friday February 10 at 10a.m.

Mountain Stage will welcome back another long-time favorite in Canadian singer, songsmith and guitarist Bruce Cockburn, who returns Sunday June 4 at the Culture Center Theater.  Cockburn has appeared on Mountain Stage 13 times since 1990 and returns to the show for the first time since 2012.

In 2014 Cockburn released “Rumors of Glory” a 9 disc box set of his music, 117 songs in all, and a DVD called “Bruce Cockburn Live – The Slice O Life Tour.” These are a companion piece to his memoir of the same name, released worldwide by Harper Collins. Inside he writes “My songs are influenced by what I read, where I travel and what I witness.” He adds: “They’re not just about spirituality or “war, injustice and exploitation,” but “derive from life itself.” “
